Do you have the skills, heart, and sheer force of will (a.k.a gravitational pull) to get you down Magnolia Street hill the fastest? We want to see you prove it! Prizes are awarded in all 4 events in the racing series, the Kids Big Wheel Race, the Shade Tree Division, the Professional Division, and the STEM Gravity Racing Challenge.  Which one will you compete for? Will you win a prize for speed or for best in show!

Professional

Professional class is for cars racing for speed, put together in a professional manner on a professional budget--just like a race car, minus the pit stop. The professional class drivers must either be 16 years old with a valid drivers license or be 18 years old or older, but there is no age limit to build team members. (Awards given for 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place)

Shadetree

Shadetree cars are the origin for the revival of the Magnolia Soap Box Derby. These grassroots project cars are constructed by friends, families, and organizations for the fun of building the car and thrill of competition. The Shadetree class drivers must either be 16 years old with a valid drivers license or be 18 years old or older, but there is no age limit to build team members. (Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd Place)

Gravity Racing Challenge

Thanks to a generous grant from the Knight Foundation, we're proudly offering a race specifically focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). The Gravity Racing Challenge, offered in partnership with the All American Soapbox Derby will be the legacy of the Magnolia Soapbox Derby. By bringing the racetrack to the classroom and back - we are confident the these builders today will be the leaders tomorrow and the next generation of MSBD Board members putting on this event for decades to come.

Big Wheel

Aspiring future racers (4-10) that are too young for the STEM race and adult races can participate in the free kid's Big Wheel Race at the bottom of the hill in between the other races. Sign up for free the day of the race! Every kid gets a shirt and participation swag! You bring the kid and we bring the Big Wheels!

STEAM

We are proud to offer a race specifically focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).
